Stride Brothers Ltd bought a plot of land at Henbury, opposite the Blaise Castle estate, in 1942. The plan was to build a new school on the site after the war finished, and planning permission was granted for Henbury School to be built there. In 1949 plans were drawn up for a new road to be built across the land to bypass Henbury village (see Bristol's Know Your Place website). However, the Council had a change of plan and decided on the current site for the new school and dropped the plan for the bypass. When Woodgrove Road was built (with the involvement of Stride & Co. (Builders) Ltd) it was laid out in such a way that houses could be built on both sides of the road, and into the rest of the plot. On Woodgrove Road itself only the houses with even numbers have so far been built.
